What is Stellar?
Stellar is an open-source, decentralized payment network designed to facilitate fast, low-cost cross-border transactions and connect financial institutions worldwide. Its primary mission is to make money fluid and accessible for everyone, particularly by serving the unbanked and improving financial inclusion in developing economies.

The Technology:
Built by Jed McCaleb (co-founder of Ripple), the Stellar network operates on a unique Federated Byzantine Agreement (FBA) consensus protocol called the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP). This allows for rapid transaction settlement (3-5 seconds) and minimal fees without relying on energy-intensive mining. The network’s native asset, XLM (Lumens), serves as a bridge currency to facilitate trades between different assets and pay transaction fees.

Built-in Decentralized Exchange: The protocol includes a non-custodial DEX in its ledger, allowing seamless trading between any issued assets on the network using XLM as a bridge.
