What is Dogecoin?
Dogecoin is a peer-to-peer, open-source cryptocurrency created in 2013 as a fun, lighthearted alternative to Bitcoin. Based on the popular "Doge" internet meme, it features the Shiba Inu dog as its logo. Despite its meme origins, it has developed a strong, passionate community and real-world utility.
The Technology:
Dogecoin is a fork of Litecoin and uses a Proof-of-Work (Scrypt algorithm) consensus mechanism.
