What is Mantle?
Mantle is a high-performance, Ethereum Layer-2 (L2) scaling solution that combines an optimistic rollup with a modular data availability layer. It is distinguished by being the first L2 incubated by a major decentralized autonomous organization (DAO)—the BitDAO ecosystem (now Mantle). Its core mission is to scale Ethereum while reducing transaction costs by an order of magnitude.
The Technology:
Mantle Network processes transactions off-chain and posts compressed data back to Ethereum for security. Its key innovation is a modular architecture that separates execution, settlement, consensus, and data availability. Initially, it plans to use an external data availability layer (like EigenDA) to further reduce costs compared to storing all data directly on Ethereum. The network is secured by Mantle's MNT token, which is used for governance, staking, and gas fees.
