What is Internet Computer?
The Internet Computer (ICP) is a blockchain-based decentralized computing platform developed by the DFINITY Foundation. Its ambitious goal is to extend the public internet's functionality by allowing smart contracts (called "canisters") to run at web speed, serve web experiences directly to users, and host data—aiming to replace traditional IT infrastructure like cloud services with a decentralized protocol.

The Technology:
ICP is built on a novel consensus mechanism and cryptographic chain-key technology that coordinates a global network of independent data centers. Its key innovation is allowing canisters to process and serve HTTP requests, meaning dApps can run 100% on-chain without needing centralized servers, databases, or cloud providers. The network is governed by the Network Nervous System (NNS), a decentralized autonomous organization where ICP token holders can stake tokens to vote on proposals and earn voting rewards.

Why It Matters:
