What is Hyperliquid?
Note: Hyperliquid may refer to either the HYPE governance token of the Hyperliquid DEX or the protocol itself. This section focuses on the protocol, a leading decentralized exchange (DEX) for perpetual futures.
Hyperliquid is a high-performance, order book-based decentralized exchange (DEX) built on its own purpose-built Layer 1 blockchain using a proof-of-stake consensus. It specializes in offering spot and perpetual futures trading with the speed and user experience of a centralized exchange, but with non-custodial, on-chain settlement.
The Innovation:
Unlike most DEXs that use Automated Market Makers (AMMs), Hyperliquid employs a central limit order book (CLOB) model—the same model used by traditional exchanges. This is made possible by its custom blockchain, which is optimized for low-latency, high-throughput transaction processing, allowing for instant trade execution, deep liquidity, and sophisticated order types. Its L1 architecture also enables seamless cross-margin trading.

Professional-Grade DeFi Trading: It brings the advanced trading features (like limit orders, stop-losses) and liquidity of CeFi to a decentralized, self-custody environment.
