What is Toncoin?
Toncoin is the native cryptocurrency of The Open Network (TON), a high-performance, layer-1 blockchain originally conceived by the founders of Telegram. After regulatory challenges, the project was taken over and advanced by an open-source community. It is designed to integrate blockchain technology seamlessly with the messaging app paradigm, targeting mass-market adoption.
The Technology:
TON employs a unique Infinite Sharding Paradigm and a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism called Catchain. Its architecture is built to scale dynamically, splitting and merging blockchains (shard chains) based on load to maintain high throughput.
