About BNB
What is Binance Coin?
BNB is the native cryptocurrency of the Binance ecosystem, initially launched to provide discounted trading fees on the Binance exchange. It has since evolved into the core utility and governance token of BNB Chain, a high-performance blockchain developed for decentralized applications (dApps) and digital assets.
The Evolution:
Starting as an ERC-20 token, BNB migrated to Binance's own blockchain (now BNB Smart Chain) to power a faster, lower-cost alternative to Ethereum for developers and users. BNB Chain combines the security of a proof-of-staked-authority (PoSA) consensus with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility.
Why It Matters:
Multi-Utility Token: BNB is used to pay transaction fees on BNB Chain, participate in token sales (Binance Launchpad), pay for travel, and more.
Deflationary Mechanism: Binance conducts quarterly "burns" of BNB based on trading activity, permanently removing tokens from circulation to reduce total supply over time.
Ecosystem Fuel: It is the essential asset for interacting with the vast DeFi, GameFi, and NFT landscape built on BNB Chain.
BNB's price action reflects both the performance of the Binance exchange and the adoption of the BNB Chain ecosystem.
