About Aave
What is Aave?
Aave is a leading, open-source, decentralized lending and borrowing protocol operating across multiple blockchains. Users can deposit cryptocurrencies into liquidity pools to earn interest, or borrow assets by providing over-collateralized crypto assets as security. It pioneered innovations like flash loans (uncollateralized loans that must be repaid within one blockchain transaction) and rate switching between stable and variable interest rates.
The Protocol & Governance:
Originally launched as ETHLend on Ethereum, Aave has become a multi-chain DeFi cornerstone. Its safety is managed through risk parameters set by the Aave DAO, where holders of the AAVE governance token vote on key decisions (e.g., adding new assets, adjusting collateral factors). AAVE holders can also stake tokens in a Safety Module to backstop the protocol in case of a shortfall event, earning staking rewards for taking on this risk.
