Hong Kong to Pilot Tokenized Exchange Fund Bills and Regulated Stablecoin Trading
Hong Kong will pilot the tokenization of Exchange Fund Bills by the end of 2026 and allow regulated stablecoins to trade on licensed platforms, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui said at a press conference. The measures, outlined in an official government briefing, position digital assets and fintech as a core growth engine for a city that already accounts for roughly half of the world’s digital bond issuance. The policy address framed these steps as central to keeping the financial hub competitive as regional rivals accelerate their own digital asset programs.
