Zcash has had a difficult two weeks. A critical bug in its Orchard privacy pool sat undetected for four years before Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8 found it on May 29. The flaw could theoretically have allowed unlimited counterfeit ZEC to be minted without leaving a trace.  No evidence of exploitation was found. Emergency patches are now live. But the damage to trust was real — and the market wiped over $5 billion in market cap in a single day.
